**************************************** ...CALL ME, CALL ME, CALL ME... If you need assistance installing Accesses. **************************************** Please don't try to break the registration code. At $19 Accesses is dirt cheap, especially if you knew how much work went into the development. All of the following programs are compiled to operate only in the Standard and Enhanced modes of Windows 3.0 and all modes of Windows 3.1. They will not launch in the Real Mode of Windows 3.0. Eventually, everyone should read CHANGES.TXT. Significant topics are summarized. The ACCE27.ZIP (or ACCE7D.ZIP) file contains the following program files: ACCESSES.EXE The main program. The Windows 3.0 is in ACCE27.ZIP whereas the Windows 3.1 version is in ACCE7D.ZIP. Look at the Help+About to see which version you may have. The Windows 3.1 version of Accesses requires Microsoft's SHELL.DLL dated 12/91 or later (included in Windows 3.1. This version of Accesses will work in Windows 3.0 if Shell.dll is in the SYSTEM directory of Windows 3.0. ACCESSES.HLP The help file in Windows HELP format. README.TXT This file. VENDOR.TXT Shareware and Vendor info. REGISTER.FRM Registration Information. ARCHIVES.TXT required reading and special offer for Archives users. NORTON.TXT An important note to Norton Desktop users. CHANGES.TXT Required reading for previous Accesses version users. VERY INTERESTING READING FOR OTHERS! ACCDRIVE.EXE Tiny pop-up that displays the free drive space. This pop-up must be launched thru Accesses' Setup menu since Accesses provides "the engine" to run the pop-up. The pop-up is a "bare bones" window and will NOT operate without Accesses. DAYALARM.EXE Tiny Calendar, daily alarm, and date calculator. This program uses the ACCESSES.INI file for initialization data. The program was developed to use less than 1% of your system resources so it can be on your computer all of the time. This program can be launched without Accesses after Accesses has built the INI file. BULLETIN.TXT Recommends the text to use when uploading the ZIP files to bulletin boards. When you register ACCESSES, you are automatically registered for both the WIN 3.0 and 3.1 versions and for ACCDRIVE and DAYALARM! You MUST Place ACCESSES.EXE and ACCESSES.HLP in the same directory as the TASKMAN.EXE windows program. You must have ACCESSES.HLP installed for the installation to work properly. After about a week, you can delete Accesses.hlp if you are short on disk space. Accesses creates ACCESSES.INI when Accesses is 1st started if an ACCESSES.INI doesn't already exist. Accesses automatically updates older version ACCESSES.INI files. Please read at least until you see the asterisk separator. ie: ************ so the INI file is properly setup! REMEMBER TWO IMPORTANT ITEMS FOR ACCESSES: 1. FILE EXTENSIONS ARE PREFERRED but not required 2. You MUST go thru the TUTOR in ACCESSES.HLP NEW USERS must READ TUTOR in Accesses.hlp. This takes 5-10 minutes & it explains how to TEMPORARILY REGISTER ACCESSES TO AVOID THE NAG Windows as well as explains how to use Accesses. To Norton Desktop USERS: READ NORTON.TXT. Follow these steps BEFORE LAUNCHING ACCESSES for the 1st time... During the installation process you will automatically be storing currently opened window positions to your ACCESSES.INI file. All of this can be easily edited by Accesses later but it helps to do some now. DON'T WORK TOO HARD AT THIS! You can easily modify the setup from Accesses later! 1. Make a backup copy of your WIN.INI file and SYSTEM.INI files NOW. I will ask you if I can add taskman.exe=accesses.exe to your SYSTEM.INI file during the installation. (This change is not required but strongly recommended. I also ask during the installation if I can append accesses.exe to the load= line of your WIN.INI. This will start Accesses automatically when you start Windows (your choice). 2. open one copy each of 5 or 6 of your most frequently used programs before running ACCESSES. Open Windows File Manager (or equivalent) and open the File Manager's 'About' Box (under the Help menu) and if your 'Free System Resources are greater than 40% open more windows until this number is between 30 to 40%, but not less than 30%. eg. Open one each of Notepad, Write, Excel, Winword, Amí, calculator,..., etc If you're running windows in the Enhanced Mode, open a DOS window as well and place the DOS window where you want it to be placed. If you are running Windows 3.1, don't open more than 30 or so windows to avoid all of this taking too long or slowing Windows down too much. Accesses can handle up to 100 windows, but Windows gets really slow. 3. Close or minimize duplicate programs. For example, Run only one 'Notepad'. If you want to keep a duplicate program open, minimized the program whose position you do not want to store. (TUTOR will explain how to save both in a separate procedure after the installation.) 4. Move these programs to the window positions that you want them to normally be in when in the 'Restored' (not maximized and not minimized) positions. USE THE RESTORED POSITION for all of these WINDOWS. Tutor explains how to change any or all of these positions if you want to make changes later - it's easy. 3. Then launch ACCESSES for the 1st time. Everyone should read CHANGES.TXT. CHANGES.TXT covers many user requested additions to Accesses that are "special features" and are sometimes not documented in ACCESSES.HLP. **************************************** I wish you the best computering, Ted DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT USERS OF ACCESSES MUST ACCEPT THIS DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTY: "ACCESSES IS SUPPLIED 'AS IS'.
